About the Book
This is the result of 3-4 days intensive shooting in 1984 with two very good models. The negatives then remained filed away until in 2013, after some prompting I decided to do something with them.
The central idea was to photograph a nude figure in the landscape alongside another neutral object, the box. A box was chosen after rejecting several other objects, a hat, a chair, and a metre square of white cloth. It had to be as neutral as possible and I decided it also needed to be 3D like the rest of the subjects. The box was custom made and was a metre square with one surface missing. The outside was painted white and the inside matt black.
Sometimes the box held the figure, sometimes it excluded the figure, sometimes it seemed to protect the figure and sometimes it seemed to present an escape route. Through the print surface.
