    About the Book

    Edit

Giant molecules, or polymers, make up the cells of all living material. For almost a century now, chemistry has also allowed for the production of synthetic polymers: plastics. It may well be the defining material of our age. Making use of early molecular modelling freeware ('Microworld") and old Photoshop filter sets, artist Tim Westbury developed a series of "imagined" molecules. In 2013 a selection of these was exhibited as "Ball & Stick", after the method of representing molecular make up first developed by German chemist August Wilhelm von Hofmann in 1865. This publication documents all thirty-eight molecular images which appeared in the original complete series.
