About the Creator
Bio: Mozambique – Maputo As the plants do not choose a garden where they sprout and blossom, the young Mozambican photographer Mário Macilau was born in the newly independent Mozambique, in the midst of the most critical phase of the civil war. Macilau's family struggled financially and moved from the Inhambane province to the capital Maputo to look for better life conditions. He became interested in photography in 2003 and more serious when he traded his mother's cell phone for his first camera in 2007. His works mingle between conceptual photography, documentary, and art. He sees the photograph as an arena for creative and active expression. The focus of his work is on contemporary, social issues, the urban and rural areas, as well as cultural heritage. Currently he is living and working in Maputo. His works have been featured in various publications, including books and have been displayed in many national and international exhibitions.
