On September 20, 2008, Martin Van Valkenburg lost his battle with cancer. Knowing his time was growing short, he had organized a yard sale on that day to lighten the burden of his many collections on his family. While the sale was being held outside, Martin's family spent what would be their last time talking, laughing, crying, and praying with him inside. John Klein, Martin's son-in-law, writes of his last meeting with the man he called "Dad." Klein reworked his poem as a picture book, pairing it with his own artwork.
