Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with the sport of basketball. Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, playing ball was almost like a rite of passage. It was one of the ways you earned respect from your peers, and the ones you looked up to. It also helped me build character, integrity, and toughness, not only physically but mentally as well. I would argue that basketball is partially responsible for who I am today.



My intimate relationship with the game led me to this project, where I followed one of Chicago’s elite basketball teams, simeon high school, for the entire season. I became a fan of the team, not only because of how much they dominated the competition, but more so because of their desire to achieve greatness, and excellence.



Simeon ended the season by winning their 3rd straight title in what some are calling the best game in Illinois state basketball history, but more importantly than that, I had the opportunity to observe the type of moments and situations that create legends.



This project represents a curated selection from over 6,000 photos and 10 hours of video documented over the course of 4 months. I hope you enjoy them and appreciate this team’s story of hard work and dedication.
