About the Creator
Ron Fleming Born; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 1937 Biography Ron Fleming is a native of Oklahoma. He was a professional illustrator and designer and has now turned his full attention toward wood sculpture and sculpting on the turned vessel form. He is represented in Santa Fe, Los Angeles, Connecticut, Philadelphia, SOFA Chicago, and SOFA New York. Fleming is active in the American Association of Woodturners and the Wood Turning Center where he is currently serving on the board of advisors. Ron Fleming has received many awards for his work, including a 1989 purchase award from the Vision Makers Show which was sponsored by the State Arts Council of Oklahoma, a Purchase Award from the 1992 Regional Craft Biennial, sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock, AR. In 1993 Michael Monroe, the curator of the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery, asked Ron to donate a piece to the White House Permanent Craft Collection as part of the observance of the Year of American Craft.
