    About the Book

    Edit

The book documents a project by Kim Abeles in collaboration with middle school students the "Smog Collector" process, a process to make images from the polluted air that was innovated by Abeles in 1987. As part of her exhibition commissioned by EcoArts Connections, "the invisible connectedness of things", students created their own "Smog Collector" plates on the rooftop of Manhattan Middle School. The multi-faceted project that also discussed lichens used as bio-monitors to measure smog, was shown in 4 Boulder locations, including the Emissions Testing facility waiting room. The exhibits brought together smog, lichens, kids, adults, and inspiring people to ride the bus, bike or walk.
