About the Book
A picture book of current and recent tenants of Rosemary Works, Hackney, London. Rosemary Works has been open to tenants since change from original use as a factory in 1991. It was there before Shoreditch was Shoreditch, when Hoxton was just a street, and when it was West London that people mostly travelled to. Much has changed in those 20 years, the area is hardly recognisable compared to then, the creative industries and the party people became encamped in these parts and the property developers followed. Surrounded by some of London's foremost and busiest thoroughfares now, Rosemary Works was typical of the way this area attracted attention and the whole thing spiralled almost out of control. All this has been referred to as regeneration in times since. Rosemary Works itself has seen many and varied colourful people come and go through it's doors, too many to mention here. The Author, Jonny Thompson, himself spent 20 years in Rosemary Works, but lived to tell the tale. This book is a picture story of the final tenants prior to the inevitable redevelopment/bulldozing of the building. They fought til the last moment and are living testimony to the unique way of life particular to Rosemary Works. Hopefully they will have many happy memories of life there.
