About the Book
We raakten in gesprek.

On August 7, 2010 I was driving on West-Krakeelstreet in Sommelsdijk and saw an older gentleman walking along the Westdijk. He was dressed in a blue smock and wore a calotte on his head. I went home immediately to pick up my Nikon D200 and returned to the Westdike. Luckily, he was still there, resting on the stone retaining wall next to cafe de Kok. We started talking. He said his name was Bouterse and that he was 94 years old. He lives on his small farm on the Oudelandse Dike a little further up the road. After this introduction I asked him if I might take some photos. “Do what you want” Bouterse said. After this first session I went with him to his house, making some more images along the way. When I said goodbye to Bouterse we agreed that I would come back again sometime.
I visited him in the morning, afternoon or evening on various occasions from October 2010 to August 2011. At the very first session at his home he grabbed his wallet and took out his wedding photo. He also pulled out his gas rationing coupon booklet from World War II. Amazing everything that this old man told me or let me see.
I photographed all my images in available light at ISO 400.
