    Susan Pitcairn
    Sedona, Arizona

    Susan Pitcairn is a painter and poet of the Southwest, who find inspiration and metaphorical meaning in nature. Raised in Arizona, she started painting the Southwest in her teens. She majored in art at the University of Arizona (1967-68), later training in oils with Tom Allen and in pastels with Kitty Wallis in Santa Cruz, Califonria (1980-82) after earning a masters in Social Psychology. There she exhibited and sold colorist, painterly oil and pastel landscapes as well as soulful portraits of Native Americans (1974-1983). Since moving to Sedona (2006) she has studied with noted artists including Kevin MacPherson, John Cogan, Clive Pates, Marcia Burtt, Clark Mitchell and Cody DeLong. She produces group and solo shows combining art, poetry and music and has published three volumes of art and poetry. In 2010 she operated the Susan Pitcairn Gallery . She shows at Gallery 527 in Jerome, and the Sedona Arts Center, where she is on the faculty and paints in the Sedona Plein Air Festival.
