I designed my first kennel in 2003. In 2005, I became the exclusive kennel designer for HoundQuarters. Based in Phoenix, AZ, they manufactured and built custom boarding kennels, animal shelters, police and military working dog kennels, and veterinary hospitals for over twenty years, and all across America. Their special construction method was developed specifically for the animal care industry using waterproof materials. When the owner passed in 2011, their kennel building division was closed.

During that time, I wrote two books on the many processes involved in building a kennel. This book speaks to the uniqueness’s of proper kennel construction and how it must differ from conventional building practices. It talks about proper finishes, air quality and drainage that are crucial in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. This book also has some 30 sample kennel plans and some drawing templates that you may photocopy and cut-out to help you arrange your kennel to scale.
