About the Book
Shadowed by a roadside started life as a series of images that focused on small aspects of rural infrastructure. Over time it has grown into itself and formed an altogether different body of work.
It speaks of preservation, loss, the harmony of nature and perseverance, but most importantly hope, community and enduring love. With undertones of the complexities of the vernacular it suggests how we perceive a situation or place without prior knowledge of what has been before.
With an ever changing environment it was Hewson's goal to bring unnoticeable scenes into our conscious minds, bringing attention to the things that get left behind by the day to day and breathing new life into the overlooked or forgotten.
