This is a story of the physical, intellectual and spiritual development of a young English naturalist, Sidney Harold Hammond, the marriage to his Nicaraguan wife, Florita del Carmen Marin, his record of the natural life of Nicaragua, and his commentary on the period of Nicaraguan ‘development’—political, social, and economic—from 1901 to 1923, as recorded in his personal diaries and letters.
