    About the Book

    Edit

The Kids Are Ok is a stunning visual journey through the lives of the children in my extended family in Utah over a period of several years. It is an intimate, surprising, and psychologically gripping account of an uncommon childhood which unfolds against the backdrop of everyday life in American suburbia.

    Brian Shumway Photography
    New York, NY

Brian’s work blurs the line between portraiture, documentary and fine art photography- a distinctive output of journalistic responsibility and artistic perception. Whether he is photographing children in poverty, or behind the scenes moments with celebrities, Brian captures his subjects with gravity and obvious warmth and curiosity. Brian has worked for Newsweek, Time, XXL, TV Guide and the New York Times, among others. His work has appeared in American Photography 2008, Communication Arts, Shots Magazine and the Photo Review as well as exhibited at Soho Photo, the Griffin Museum, the Fraser Gallery and elsewhere throughout the USA. The Magenta Foundation named Brian one of 25 Emerging Photographers in 2008 in the United States. His Project on La Chureca, the city dump in Managua, Nicaragua, was named a finalist for the Santa Fe Center’s 2008 Project Competition.
