    About the Book

    Edit

For years I have witnessed the John Wall & Sons travelling fair come and go every summer, and I have always desired to spend some time photographing this event. The romance of the "Carni" life, coupled with the way they mushroom up in open space areas in the community, bringing vibrant colour and vitality to what was an empty expanse. Rejuvenating the area for

a few days before packing up, and moving on in the blink of an eye as if they were never there.

It is perhaps this impermanent nature of the fairground that most appeals to an inherent restless nature in myself; the romance of a new town, new people and always a fresh start.

I finally got my opportunity this year.

The mixture of day and night is so appealing. The washed out heat of the day time colours alongside the Technicolor of the night time makes for such fascinating contrasts, with just the merest suggestion of people.

I try now not to pin myself down into any specific style of photography, and at a push I would describe my style of photography as simply "Observational". Generally though, I simply enjoy the artistic process involved in taking a photograph and then the subsequent post processing. I see post processing as a direct extension of the creative process involved in digital photography. I am from Cape Town originally, although I have now lived over half my life in Britain. First in London for many years, and now for the past 6 years in East
