About the Book
In a world facing increasing population, peak oil, climate destabilization, economic hardships, and social isolation, cohousing can provide a sustainable housing alternative which integrates the solutions in a single development.
As a body of many parts, Christians should sympathize with a dissatisfaction of housing options. They are called to communal interaction which is difficult due to the social isolation inherent in suburban sprawl. The concept of cohousing appears at Pentecost after a crowd of God-fearing Jews gathered around the apostles who were speaking in tongues. Peter spoke about Jesus’ death and resurrection, and about 3000 accepted his message and became Christians.
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
- Acts 2:42-47 TNIV Holy Bible
