    About the Book

    Edit

Amazonianism was the first serious body of photographic work I produced back in 2005 and is arguably the most intense. It is certainly the one that consumed the most of me and the work I've been the most absorbed within.

The culmination of almost three years of prior preparation and research I set out to achieve to two things: firstly, I wanted to take an unromantic look at the Amazon – far removed from the tropical fantasia of the National Geographic and other mainstream media, one which was more representative of the non-indigenous Amazonian majority; secondly, I wanted to explore key environmental and cultural themes on a level concomitant with my detailed understanding of the region and its problems.

The book includes a preface by Professor Stephen Nugent of Goldsmiths University who has written widely on the Amazon from both an anthropological and visual perspective.
