Kidnapped near Chitral in 1895 this is a story which those who are interested in the Fowlers, and the history of the area may want to read. The area is now off limits to travellers but when I was there in 1989/90/91 it was full of beauty, and enormous hospitality. The original diary had two chapters by Sir G.S.Robertson who is famous as the author of the Kafirs of the Hindu Kush. Although the word 'kafir' (lit.unbeliever) is now outmoded, the people of the Kailash Valleys were first described for a European readership by Robertson in his fascinating book. So there is a sense in which this slim volume connects with his historic account.. I have included some photographs of Edwardes and Fowler, that were reproduced in the original volume.
