    About the Book

    Edit

My wife and I was invited to attend a memorial service for a confederate soldier. The service was in a field, along a dirt road, on a farm in Conway, North Carolina.

Not knowing what to expect and as the memorial proceeded, my mind could only imagination the "Civil War Times."

Urquhart-Gillette Color Guards and Isle of Wight Soldiers Aid Society grieving widow re-enactors were present and dressed in period attire.

Members of the 13th Virginia Mechanized Cavalry, Camp 9, arrived on their iron horses.

Very inspirational, humbling, and what an honor to catch these moments on photo!

Just a country boy born and raised in Weeksville, North Carolina, who is proud of his military and southern heritage. My great, great, great grandfather fought and survived as a Confederate Army Sergeant during the War Between the States, otherwise known as the Civil War (1861-1865). My father fought in the Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. My son has served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a U.S. Marine Corps soldier and is still serving in this capacity. I honorably retired from the U.S. Navy as a Submarine Independent Duty Hospital Corpsman "SUBDOC", after 20 years of service. As a dedication and honor to my GGG grandfather I joined to support the Sons of Confederate Veterans for his honorable service in a war that killed more soldiers than all the wars combined in our Nation's history. Thanks to all VETERANS who have and are currently serving in our military forces!
