About the Book
Morgan, Sarah, Colly and Kyle Smith left their home in Piedmont, California, in August of 2009.
They planned to travel for the school year and return in June of 2010. They had many reasons for leaving but weren’t sure where to go or how to get there. They figured it out along the way.
This book documents their journey from California to Colorado, Argentina to Chile, New Zealand to Australia, Hong Kong to Spain, Italy to Switzerland, and finally England to home. It also shows how Colly and Kyle grew in a single year as they turned 12 and 9, and how Morgan and Sarah gradually changed as a result of a nomadic, simpler lifestyle.
It’s not the whole story of their trip but rather scenes from a life-changing year. The images come from the collection of the thousands of photographs that Morgan took. The text comes from the online travelogue called Away Together (away-together.com) that Sarah wrote. Morgan designed this book in late 2010 for family and friends who followed their travels and supported their efforts.
