    About the Book

    Edit

This is a revised version of my earlier book 66 : The Story of a House but with softcover.

A house is bricks and mortar. A home is a place where we have a sense of belonging and an emotional attachment; somewhere we create usually with others.

These photos document the house which was my family home for 60 years. They celebrate a family growing up together and reflect different times in their lives. People, trends and fashions have come and gone, whilst evidence of them is frozen in time around the home.

This is a family photo album but it doesn't show births, weddings, or other key events; it documents the everyday things that made up our lives together and made our home our home.

They are uniquely personal but they also allow viewers to reflect on their own experiences and memories.

I have a love of both open landscape and the built environment. I’m interested in the marks people leave behind. My practice is informed by memory and shared social histories. The research into an area or subject forms an important part of the creative process and often highlights the mundane or apparently inconsequential, all those important little things that make up our world. I work mainly with a digital camera but still love to retreat into my darkroom and to work with 19th century photographic techniques and alternative processes. I like to experiment and explore the possibilities of new and old techniques. Despite careful planning, ‘happy accidents’ happen and perhaps these excite me the most as often they lead to more interesting work and untried pathways. Recently I’ve been combining photography with printmaking techniques and laser cutting to produce multimedia artworks or textiles as a means of elaborating and informing the understanding of a piece of work.
