    About the Book

    Edit

Throughout my many visits in these five Parisian parks, I have always asked the same

question, “is it the architecture that attracts the children’s activities or is it the culture that successfully drives the children to utilize these parks?” I have found that it cannot be one

without the other. The parks are only successful when the emphasis is based on the activity of the child. The Parisian parks are so successful because of their intuitive design for a sense of security in each park. In every park there are only so many exits and as little as four exits in Place des Vosges. This allows for the parents to be able to monitor their child’s location at all times. The security is even as sensitive as having a fence around the specific children’s playgrounds as in Jardin des Tuileries. Trees, vegetation, benches, and gates also act as means of security in the parks. The government funded parks have security guards that maintain another level of security for the park.
