    About the book

”Finding time to pause and wonder in our frantic lives is a rare indulgence, to facilitate this for others over 3 months is a privilege”.

This book offers a visual insight into the Sunrise Project, where 450 pinhole cameras were distributed to residents, school pupils and community groups across South Bristol. Each camera took a 3 month-duration exposure of the sun tracking across the sky, from Spring to Summer solstice.

The book contains a selection of images, stories and anecdotes submitted by participants. It also includes Justin Quinnell's tips and recommendations for staging a similar project, as well as instructions on how to make your own 3-month duration exposures.

Justin was an artist in residence at Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) from February – July 2010, as part of the KWMC Arts Programme, which is funded by Arts Council England and Bristol City Council.

    About the Author

Currently a part time Lecturer at the University College Falmouth, Justin Quinnell is acknowledged as one of the world experts in pinhole photography. He was chosen as pinhole photography consultant for the feature film ‘The Brothers Bloom’ starring Rachel Weisz (as a pinhole photographer) and Mark Ruffalo. It features Justin's cameras and photographs.

Last year one of Justin’s 6-month duration exposures was chosen as NASA Astronomical photograph of the day, resulting in worldwide recognition within the astronomical and scientific community.
