    About the Book

    Edit

A portfolio of Skip Hill's collage paintings from the prolific period of 2005-2007.

A growing group of enthusiastic collectors have discovered a new artistic vision through the eyes of Skip Hill and his colorful, iconic, funky paintings of crying prophets, Black Madonnas, haiku divas, ghetto geishas and ornately adorned elephants.

Hill employs a Neo-Primitive idiom that weaves a rich collage of aesthetic styles, languages and metaphysical philosophies rooted in cultures around the world.

Embracing an African-influenced modernist style, Skip Hill uses patterns and images collaged from cultural sources as diverse as folk art, grafitti, Mexican retablos, Japanese Ukiyo-e woodcuts,Russian Orthodox icons and Ife Bronzes.

Skip Hill melds the myriad images of his collective memory and performs a jazz solo of artistic improvisations using paper, paint, found objects and his inate gifts; creating a sophisticated, contemporary Pop folk art in the process.

These highly textured, lyrical works confirm the growing buzz among his patrons that Skip Hill is a charming, intelligent new talent whose work has found an enthusiastic emerging audience.
