This is my first excursion into the world of digital SLR photography. And my first Blurb photobook. In the distant past I used film and transparency, but more recently I have relied on the convenience and operational simplicity of "point and shoot" compacts. I admit I was amazed on my recent return to the subject by the capabilities and versatility of the modern digital SLR.



This book is a record of a three week journey across Italy, from Rome to Venice, in the company of my three children and my new Nikon.



A million pictures must be taken every week in St Peter's Square in Rome, and a million holidaymakers return home happy with their memories, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to capture something different or even unique. There are so many good cameras in the hands of so many skilled photographers these days. With the advance of digital imagery, there are no longer any excuses for a technically poor photograph.



Here are my personal favorites from the million shots I took – OK, a slight exaggeration - and my quest to capture something a little different, proof that even in the hands of a keen amateur surrounded by his pesky progeny, it is possible, I like to think, to come away with something abidingly personal and worthwhile.
