    About the Book

    Edit

In Thinkings, Brad Borevitz explores the impact of computers on visuality in art practice and the practice of everyday life. Life with computers has changed the way we see and think. A thorough understanding of the import of that change is difficult to attain. We tend to focus on the epiphenomena rather than the deep structure of computational culture. We are immersed in brands, in products, in the spectacle and the experience mediated by computers and screens, but we rarely consider data as such, or what a system is. And yet, data and system are the concepts that affect our way of seeing and thinking and make them radically different after the recent ubiquity of computers.

Brad Borevitz is a conceptual artist whose work focuses on language, politics and software. From abstract animations to the statistical analysis of political language, from erotic kaleidoscopes to robots wielding hammer drills, all his projects propose ways to understand the political, philosophical and cultural implications of computer technology as a constructed, historically situated, and manipulable artifact of human sociality. In addition to his art practice, he works as a web developer, technical writer, and information architect. He has taught media history and theory as well as computer programming for the arts in San Francisco State University's departments of Art and Design.
