    About the Book

    Edit

99% of the images in this book represent my work covering the Society Beat for a weekly column titled "Out and About" for the Washington Post. From 1999-2006 I collaborated with columnist Roxanne Roberts and at various times our partners in crime were writers Janelle Erlichman, Beth Buchanan and Laura Thomas. It was fabulous fun and we covered well over 1000 parties in 7 years. I loved it!

Our beat took us to art openings, soirees, intimate gatherings, galas, and fundraisers, to name a few. We were open to all types of events, but always partial to the famous, powerful and intriguing. Besides the glamour of interacting with powerful politicians and celebrities, we met some wonderful "regular" folk and we always dined well at these events (my favorite perk). I never did meet Johnny Depp, though I was ever hopeful.

In this book there is plenty of love and plenty of power. Polar opposites on the political spectrum getting on quite nicely.

Which I feel illustrates one of my favorite quotes by Jimi Hendrix.

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." Hold the vision.

    Rebecca D'Angelo
    washington DC,

With a BFA in fine art, and a career as an editorial photojournalist, Rebecca D'Angelo brings an edge and intimacy to her work that you don't find in most photographers. Her work is thoughtful, and she has an ability to capture the ever elusive "decisive moment". She was with the Washington Post photographing the Society Beat for 10 years, as well as an environmental portrait column called "Life is Short". Her work has appeared in numerous local and national publications, including the New York Times, Ebony, WNC, Imbibe, and National Geographic Traveller. She resides in Black Mountain, NC...a stone's throw from Asheville with her constant companion, a beautiful husky, akita, shephard mix named Lakota.
