Photographs of orchids by Robert Ezergailis. Influenced by impressionist art and pictorialist photography the intent is to convey the immense diversity of the wide ranging colors, shapes, and sensuality of the species. The images were made at orchid shows with emphasis on isolating the blooms from their surroundings to create intriguing backgrounds using the provided settings. Quotations from various writers, artists and others are interspersed among the images to give indications as to how they were inspired by and perceived the orchid. With introduction by Virginia Trieloff, and a concluding biographical and technical note regarding the photographer. The images were selected from several thousand photographs made over the span of more than a decade, specifically to illustrate the types of blooms and varieties, both commonly and rarely found at orchid shows in south central Ontario.
