this publication is both a component of, and a separate, related piece to, an experimental video project completed in the spring of 2010.



in this work, i have put together a series of images that embody sentiments with regards to my investigation, both in their own right, as well as in relation to their pairing, progression, and accompanying poetry. i am exploring issues around tension, specifically within dichotomies that exist in the realms of perceptions of history, culture, and convention.



i am reflecting upon the concrete, documented events of my travels through reflective prose and representative imagery, and at the same time personally interpreting a real-life search for ancestry, through anachronistic progression and the integration of a poetic dimension. my work is not a regurgitation of the actual events or sentiments experienced by myself or those pictured herein; rather, it is the formulation of a new narrative, in some ways fictional, of an absurdist being whose journey is finalized at a moment of devastating enlightenment.
