About the Book
This story is inspired by real-life experiences with my grandson, Tahir, my bonus granddaughter Coco, and other children. At the time it was written, Tahir was just two and a half years old.
It is both heartwarming and at times heartbreaking to watch him try to connect with other children. Sometimes, he becomes frustrated or overwhelmed when he is misunderstood. It can also be difficult to watch other children struggle to understand why he communicates differently.
Though nonverbal, Tahir is full of personality and expresses himself in his own unique ways. Like Tahir, many children on the autism spectrum are eager to make friends, but they may connect differently.
Your role is essential in helping children understand, include, and celebrate one another’s differences.
