About the Book
In Colors, I examine exposure, presence, and character within the Whitman College community through portraiture. At Whitman, institutional language often circulates through acronyms such as PWI (“Predominantly White Institution”) and POC (“People of Color”) to describe the campus environment. While these terms name real structures and lived experiences, they can also reduce individuals into institutional labels. In response, this project brings attention to what is often UnSeen by highlighting the presence of People of Color who actively shape the college community but are not always fully recognized within its visual culture.
