    About the Book

    Edit

From the author of A Promise on Brushy Creek, the family memoir To All the World weaves together personal recollections, historical events, and Southern family traditions. It unfolds around the family life and collective experiences of a Mississippi family during war, holidays, and everyday life. It begins with an air of deep concern as F.C. and Frances Price await news of their missing son who is serving in the Korean War. The story then reflects on the couple’s personal memories, including their marriage in Natchez, Mississippi. The narrative also shares humorous and poignant accounts of the Price children, such as their experience with a pretend “Tom Thumb wedding,” childhood games, and a love of bedtime storytelling. One particularly vivid tale traces an awe-inspiring family connection to Margaret “Peggy” Daviess Hess. Peggy, who according to family lore was once rescued by George Washington, later survived harrowing encounters with Native Americans on the Kentucky frontier. She is honored today as one of the first women to plead a case in U.S. courts. Enjoy this portrait of memories and Southern life that honors the small and profound joys and sorrows that helped define a family’s history and identity.

    Lisa Lacy
    Leland, MS

A lifelong history lover and native Mississippian, Lisa Lacy collected books on the Civil War as a young girl and is still “mesmerized” by pictures and stories from the past. She has fond memories of visiting her relatives in Agricola, Mississippi in George County, just a few miles down the road from Brushy Creek. Married to George County native Richard C. "Curt" Lacy since 1992, the couple along with son Keaton Alexander recently moved back to their home state. It was after she and her family arrived in the Mississippi Delta that she became inspired to finish her goal of sharing the stories of her paternal heritage learned from her father. She hopes that "A Promise on Brushy Creek" will encourage others to discover and convey their own family stories of love, courage, hard work, and tragedy which have helped make us all who we are today.
