About the Book
In this oral history Clifford takes us to The War Years of WWII, through conversation with respected oral historian Cameron Vanderscoff. Clifford takes us from growing up on his family farm in rural Minnesota to his Navy service. After graduating Midshipmen’s School, he is selected to learn the then-secret radar technology, so he boards the train to study at Harvard and MIT. He will test its use as the radar and sonar officer aboard the USS McCracken(APA-198) in the Battle of Okinawa, the largest amphibious battle in the WWII Pacific Theater, as they brought the first Marines safely to shore under attack. He returns from war, pivoting to find a career in postwar civilian life. He honors his family and his wife's family as they experience the long tail of war. This oral history is Book 3 in his four-book Oral History series: Land Below, Sky Above, that traces his ten plus decade life from farmer, to Navy, to an engineering career in space field.
