    About the Book

    Edit

During the pandemic summer of 2020, while Louisville burned with protests over Breonna Taylor's murder, steamboat engineer John Paul Wright kept the midnight watch at mile marker 604 on the Ohio River. From this vantage point—where the homeless seek refuge, sex workers do their rounds, and the city's crisis plays out against helicopter blades and police sirens—Wright bears witness to a historical moment with the eye of Kerouac, the heart of Whitman, and the unflinching honesty of Bukowski. Part journal, part prose poem, part gonzo reportage, *A Revelation At The Confluence* is a raw, lyrical chronicle of a city in upheaval and one man's journey from the wreckage of divorce to the beginning of new love, all rendered through encounters with Ferguson, Maya, Billy, and the other souls who inhabit the margins. Wright doesn't just observe the fringe—he claims kinship with it, finding in the river's flow and the night's quiet solitude a kind of working-class mysticism that transforms watchman duty into spiritual practice. This is Louisville as you've never read it: compassionate, contradictory, and shining like the sun.
