A message from Jayphoria

This is my first photo book. You only get to make a first photo book once so I wanted to make sure this one was special. The book follows my journey in Tokyo over the span of 6 months while I was traveling through Asia in the first half of 2023. While I was in Tokyo I became obsessed with the design and attention to detail of the magazines that were coming out of the region. I knew I wanted to make a zine at the time so I figured it would only do it justice to create a zine directly influenced by the design of Japanese magazines.

Often times as a creative, its easy to be placed into a box or category as the type of artist you’re supposed to be. Personally, I’ve always like the idea of going against the grain drawing influences from all mediums of art. This book is a direct reflection of that. On a personal level, its proof to myself that I can be more than just a photographer. I’m someone capable of anything I put the proper dedication and time into.
