About the Book
While I love all of our past issues, I must admit this is my favorite issue so far (shh, don’t tell the others!) mostly because we received so many awesome submissions from younger writers and artists. I love the creative spirit of children and teenagers, and I pray that these kids never lose their love for poetry, storytelling, and art as they grow older. We were also blessed to receive work from seasoned writers and artists, and I think it may be one of our more visually stunning and engaging issues thus far. We hope you and your family enjoy it as much as we do.
In these pages, you’ll find whispers of autumn, light touches of Christmas here and there, and poetic explorations of God’s creatures. You’ll find exciting stories with battles of faith, time travel, romance, and simple reminders of the power of Jesus’ love and the importance of doing the right thing. There’s a delicious, chocolatey recipe to ring in the Christmas season, comics, and more surprises we hope you’ll enjoy. This issue truly has something for everyone.
Heart of Flesh is a biannual, online and print literary journal that seeks quality writing and art with a Christian element. We are not a typical “Christian fiction” journal. We believe God’s truth as written in the Bible can be found in both the sacred and the secular, in nearly every work of literature and every part of the human condition. We accept work from both Christians and non-Christians from all over the world. Pure in Heart Stories is the "kid sister" of Heart of Flesh. It is a biannual literary magazine for kids (written by adults) between the ages of 6-11 years old. Pure in Heart contains Christian-themed poetry, stories, and art. A portion of all proceeds from both journals will be donated to Mission of Hope (https://www.missionofhopeministries.net/about/), a "residential Christian program focusing on men and women struggling with drug and alcohol dependency," and to Aunt Mary's Storybook (https://cjtinc.org/projects/amsb/).
