About the Book
"Blistered Heels" tells the beginning of the Beecham story in Territorial Oklahoma through descendant Elsie Davidson as she documents the accounts of Nathan Beecham and his journey from orphan, to soldier, to a pioneer who settled a community called Pleasant Home near the Okarche/El Reno area in the late 1800's. It is an interesting account of life as a pioneer in the days leading up to statehood in Oklahoma. In addition to the story of Western migration for the Beechams, the book accounts how our cemetery began as a resting place for Nathan's daughter and many other children who were taken during the diphtheria epidemic -many of whom rest in a mass grave in the cemetery grounds. All sales of "Blister Heels" benefit the BCA and contribute to the perpetual care of our historic cemetery.
