About the Book
Worlds on Tables is a short yet deeply personal photographic journey into the art, craft, and emotion of toy photography–told through the lens of a lifelong Star Wars fan who learned to build entire galaxies on the surface of a simple table.
Combining cinematic imagery with reflective essays, Marek Leavenworth invites readers into the small, improvised studios where his scenes take shape: cardboard-box planets, flour-covered landscapes, pebble fields, and meticulously lit vignettes that transform childhood figures into living stories. Alongside these images, Leavenworth shares the process behind them–the patience, trial and error, technical challenges, and small victories that define the work.
But at its heart, Worlds on Tables is a story about creativity, rediscovery, and belonging. Leavenworth traces his connection to Star Wars back to quiet moments in an attic with his father, through years of teasing that pushed the fandom underground, and finally to the joy of returning to it as an adult–both through photography and as a member of the 501st Legion. Each chapter pairs a guiding Star Wars quote with reflections on growth, persistence, and finding one’s voice in a community built on passion and imagination.
Equal parts art book, memoir, and creative encouragement, Worlds on Tables celebrates the small spaces where worlds are built, stories begin, and inspiration takes root.
