About the Book
I began photographing graffiti on New York City’s Williamsburg Bridge after moving to Brooklyn in 2008. I ride my bicycle over the 120-year-old suspension bridge that crosses the East River into Manhattan to get to work every day. A little more than halfway up the Manhattan side of the pedestrian path is a large 9.5 x 6.5 foot bronze sign. It is a favorite for graffiti artists because of its size and location at pedestrian level. The first image in the book caught my eye in 2008 and I have been documenting ever since. The images are arranged on the pages that follow in chronological order, allowing you to view the layering that takes place before the process begins anew.
