About the Book
Litsy Tellez’s Lookin’ Through is a color photographic series that explores the natural healing properties of The Huntington Library’s botanical gardens. Through documenting the public and their interactions with the gardens one can see the stillness and peace that the gardens facilitate.
Since the shelter in place mandate, people have faced setbacks and psychological trauma in order to protect themselves and their loved ones. During the pandemic, the Huntington gardens became a perfect place to find refuge in a safe manner for oneself and those outside their “social bubble.”
Tellez’s personal struggles with finding new and sustaining coping mechanisms has led her to her own stillness and peace within the gardens. Throughout this journey she was able to find others finding their own sense of balance that may have been lost throughout the pandemic.
Within this book of her own experiences perhaps you the viewer would be inspired to visit your own local botanical gardens to find the peace within the garden.
