About the Book
The photographer traveled the backroads of these states in June 2012. After readings in physics and cosmology indicated that space—on earth and beyond—is not only not nothing, but permeated with energy fields and forces, the photographer looked for ways to photograph it.
By framing landscapes that minimize the ground and maximize sky, the photographs convey a sense of the vastness of the atmosphere and all it contains, seen and unseen. While outer space is not depicted, the sky photographs urge our imagination to journey beyond it. The more earth-bound subjects speak to human presence in places that are rocky, rugged and wide open. Also, these images help us appreciate the Native Americans who, for hundreds of years, called this territory “home.”
