East Los Angeles is an unincorporated area in Los Angeles County, California. The area is notable for its high Hispanic proportion and is the highest proportion of Hispanic Americans out of any city or Census-designated place in the United States outside of Puerto Rico. East Los Angeles is stereotypically known as a dangerous area, yet it seems that the violence stems from those you least expect. Since 2000, at least 964 people have been killed by law enforcement in Los Angeles County, according to homicide records from the county medical examiner-coroner. “Los Disturbios” follows the life of an impacted family from East Los Angeles. David Ordaz Jr. was shot and killed in front of his family by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department on the afternoon of March 14, 2021 during a mental health crisis.
