    About the Book

    Edit

This lively issue of Y35 Mag offers a platform to three creative geniuses from all over the United States. Jesse Hebner (California), Dana (USA), and Jack Connors (Maryland) have SO much to say, and SO much to offer. Their voices are LOUD, and in their own ways, their art is imaginative and purposeful. Their words are painful and comical and stimulating and reassuring. They are honest and engaging. Through the accompanying imagery they've chosen to showcase, their vivid art is not only visually stunning and aesthetically pleasing to admire, but it also gives meaning and context to their individuality and self-expression.

Taking a deep dive into this issue will truly offer you the ability to perceive raw emotion, the creative drive behind a diverse set of minds, and a spectrum of perspectives illustrating how we all find love and passion through film. Through interviews with Jesse and Jack, as well as "A Love Letter" penned by Dana, you will find insights into their visions, inspiration, and a sense of community. Jesse, Dana, and Jack are authentic and express themselves through their words and photographs without restraint- without fear or reluctance to open up and share about personal struggles. There is plenty of lighthearted content to devour as well, to be sure. Thanks for looking and taking the time to appreciate the art.

I’ve always maintained an affection for crafting visual arts that can convey specific emotions in a polished and clever manner. Discovering analog photography has allowed me to develop a deep passion for the technical aspects and rich history of photography as I continue to explore new films, equipment, and practices. The analog community has inspired me to share my works and advance my craft - I believe film conveys the nuances and imperfections of real life - characteristics that are often lost in the world of digital photography. The opportunities for experimentation have reinvigorated my affection for visual arts - not knowing how a frame will turn out until it’s developed, the uncertainty in how a film will render the colors and the shadows and the highlights of a scene, being limited to a set amount of shots per roll - analog has inspired me to go out and just shoot again. Each shot matters and every frame is interesting.
