Journals of a CIA counternarcotics analyst on his first two trips to Latin America. He feels like a narco-tourist while learning about coca cultivation, traditional indigenous use of the coca leaf and the manufacture of cocaine. Along the way he helps brief the President of Bolivia, visits coca fields and cocaine labs, and goes on a coca eradication mission and an ill-fated Peru river cruise.
