    About the Book

    Edit

There comes a time in every artist's life when they face a world greatly changed from when they were young and starting their career. Old age brings the joy of seeing one's life work in a perspective reserved for those who made it into the future. The road behind, as if seen in a rear-view mirror, will be full of accomplishments and missteps. The road ahead may promise more. When Bill approached his 80th year, he recovered among the drawers and boxes in his studio not only works of art, craft and design remaining yet not spoken for, but also data entered on paper and on his computers. As an early adopter of technology when he was a college professor, everything is data on his computer and on the cloud. This catalog resulted when, with his wife and daughter, he spent a year with them to make snapshots and assigning the works to a database. His goal extends beyond mere documentation, however, because his lifetime goal is that of an art teacher, focused on fine art printmaking. At the onset of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, he has realized a strategy to serve not only his family's needs but also for his community of supporters - present and future owners of his work - and those yet-to-be buyers of what he calls "artiscrip," based on scripophily. Ritchie’s novel concept, artiscrip, he developed in parallel with his family's work making snapshots and a database. At the onset of his 80th year he is now able to present this catalog to accompany opportunities for patrons to engage online with his quest for a better world.
