Maya is just your average teenage girl. Over the course of The Journey, she has a lot of obstacles to overcome. She, like most teenagers her age, has guy and dating issues. She has her ups and downs also. Throughout the story, we see Maya grow and blossom as a person, and a young woman. We see who Maya is hopefully going to become. We see friends come and go. We see her have personal struggles. This piece of realistic fiction greatly relates to what many young teenage girls go through nowadays.
