In Philip Pullman’s fantasy book series, “His Dark Materials” Pullman creates characters who’s souls manifest themselves as animal companions. Although the series is fictional, there is something incredibly relatable to many people in the idea of an animal companion holding a piece of their soul. This is particularly relatable to those in the horse community. To many a horse is more than a pet, they are a teammate, living long lives and developing a lasting relationship with their human based on nonverbal communication and trust.

This book aims to showcase those connections through the documentation of the people and horses that reside at Dunroven farm in Harvard Massachusetts.
