About the Book
At night, the sky is black instead of blue
but in truth it is never completely black
celestial objects defend against the darkness
The moon is a friend in the night
A thin cirrus cloud forms a ring around it
and the sun always below the horizon
the other stars so far way
we must avert our gaze to see them
and travel far away from the urban skyglow
in the day, the black sky is always there
hiding behind the blue
holding the light safe
living in the shadow
a silhouette on the ground
matching exactly the outline of its subject
what is light without dark?
Like the potter of Sicyon’s daughter
Drawing her lover’s shadow on a wall
but in truth it is never completely black
celestial objects defend against the darkness
The moon is a friend in the night
A thin cirrus cloud forms a ring around it
and the sun always below the horizon
the other stars so far way
we must avert our gaze to see them
and travel far away from the urban skyglow
in the day, the black sky is always there
hiding behind the blue
holding the light safe
living in the shadow
a silhouette on the ground
matching exactly the outline of its subject
what is light without dark?
Like the potter of Sicyon’s daughter
Drawing her lover’s shadow on a wall
