About the Book
In Africa a calabash is often used as a receptacle to store or carry food, water, beer and even used as a pipe to smoke from.
I have used the title “A Calabash of Poetry and Writings” as my vessel to carry my words and thoughts to you.
My collection is inspired by my early life in Rhodesia. A reminder of the freedom and beauty I grew up experiencing. Time in the military and the men whom I regard most worthy of deep consideration at a time we all stood together as a nation fighting for our country and beliefs.
The five sections of my book, Rhodesian/Zimbabwe ~ Animals ~ Military ~ Thoughts and Dedications. A variety of poems, past and present will give you a view of emotions and thoughts that take up space in my head, some were written from memories, others inspired by photographs and a few spilled out from books I’ve read.
My sincere wish to come out of my poetry is to touch you with my memories of a place called home.

Born in Gwanda Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) lived in Fort Victoria (Masvingo) near the Great Zimbabwe Ruins and Umtali (Mutare) Writing poetry only happened around 6 years ago, it started with a few words for my daughter about her daughter albeit it took 2 years to complete as I watched her grow. Then words flooded my head, some still lie incomplete BUT I've put together what I hope is the best of my rhyme and freestyle poetry. The journey to self-publication has been a roller coaster ride but I persevered and survived with the help and encouragement of a few special people. I'm proud of my accomplishment and want you, the reader, to enjoy my writings.
