    About the Book

    Edit

In 1999 my brother realised a dream – a dream inspired by the book The Man Who Planted Trees, by the French author Jean Giono. The book first published in 1953, tells the story of a widowed shepherd who has decided to restore the ruined landscape of an isolated and mostly abandoned valley by planting trees. This book tells a similar story of the restoration of land with the planting of thousands of trees and the dream to create a sustainable. The book is as much a story and portrait of the man who plants the trees as the slowly transforming landscape.

    Natalie Koffman

Having had an interest in photography and the arts since the age of 7, Natalie finally completed a BA in photography at London College of Communication in 2010. She has had work selected and exhibited at Host Gallery, London, University of the Arts, Southbank Centre and recently achieved the final short listed for The Taylor Wessing and Bar Tur awards. Her work is mainly concerned with social and environmental issues and investigates the way in which humans relate to and with the environment and with each other. The increasing disconnection of man from nature along with the impact of the exploitation and domination of nature are explored within much of her work. The power of the photographic image and in particular the history and language of landscape photography and painting are key considerations within her work. The landscape and its potential to address these issues continues to be focus for new work.
